Sony has revealed a new accessory for its Playstation 5, with a very similar concept to Nintendo’s now-retired Wii U console.
Planned for release in 2023, this accessory is referred to as “Project Q”, and is a small screen with two halves of a controller attached to the sides. Although it looks similar to the Switch, it functions more like the Wii U’s gamepad in that it allows players to stream their PS5 games to “Project Q” to play remotely. Sony takes care to specify that this device can only be used to play games that are installed on the PS5 console, excluding VR titles.

Sony’s decision to emulate the Wii U gamepad with this device is somewhat odd, as the Wii U is widely considered a failed console. That said, since Project Q is more of an accessory than an attempt to market a brand new console, perhaps it will avoid meeting a similar fate to its inspiration.
