Nintendo Japan to stop accepting repairs for Wii U consoles and peripherals

There’s end of life, and then there’s the true nail in a console’s coffin – when the company that made it stops accepting any service for it whatsoever. And that is now the fate of the long gone Wii U, consigned to memory along with every other Nintendo console pre-Switch – Nintendo Japan is going to stop repair services for the Wii U.

When exactly? Well, they still have several repair parts leftover, so they’re going to keep specific repair services going until they run out of those parts. As such, there isn’t a specific closure date so much as a “first come first served” system until they run out of materials. So while services aren’t closing down immediately, they will be dropping out one by one on specific services as parts run out.

Of course, this death isn’t untimely so much as a part of life (or in this case, manufacturing logistics). But for a console considered a flop, it lasted a bit longer than people give it credit for before shuttering entirely – even if it maybe shouldn’t have had its eShop close? Just saying.
