The existence of Persona 6 is a no-brainer, since Atlus will probably never stop making Persona games. That being said, and after Persona’s recent outbreak on multiple platforms, you would think things would stay that way forever. Well, not really, as gaming insider Nate the Hate reports that the upcoming Persona 6 might be confined to the PlayStation 5 when it releases in late 2024.
Nate is an insider with some credibility, at least according to this list, which has several titles that are now proven to be a reality. We currently have Persona 4 Golden on multiple platforms, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Houses of the Dead, and a new Fire Emblem which is likely the Fire Emblem Engage released earlier this year (though we are still waiting for the Genealogy remake if the list proves true).
He also previously mentioned that Persona 6 is going to be exclusive, but this is the first time we are made aware of an exact release window for it.
This adds Persona 6 to a long list of upcoming third-party exclusives that Sony currently has in store, including but not limited to Final Fantasy 16, Silent Hill 2 Remake, KOTOR Remake, Stellar Blade, Lost Soul Aside, Convallaria, and more.
Nate also mentions that we might get more “meat on the bones” for Sony’s PS VR 2 during Wednesday’s PlayStation Showcase, which is a new platform that doesn’t have much going for it at the moment, but he clearly states that he isn’t expecting to see any Persona 6 news at this showcase (and that we are more likely to hear about it at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show).
According to Nate’s info, Persona 6’s unveiling might also be delayed due to the rumored Persona 3 Remake coming out this year. He also confirms that a new Jet Set Radio is in the works (which was only seen alongside the original P3 Remake leak), and adds that there’s a third P5 spin-off that might be announced at the Tokyo Game Show, albeit it’s unknown if he’s referring to Persona 5X: Phantom of the Night or something else entirely.
All of this still has to be taken with a grain of salt regarding the exclusivity, as Sega’s vice president previously told Famitsu that “simultaneous worldwide release on multiple platforms will be a tailwind for titles,” and that Sega is “aware of global expansion for Atlus titles as well,” so having it as an exclusive kind of belies that worldview.
