  • Journey to the Savage Planet Getting Free Next-Gen Upgrade

After two years, Journey to the Savage Planet is getting a free next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, bundled with the Hot Garbage DLC.

Two years after its release, Journey to the Savage Planet is getting a free next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The update will improve visuals and performance on higher-end consoles, giving players the best-ever version of Journey to the Savage Planet.

First released in 2020, Journey to the Savage Planet was the only title from developer Typhoon Studios, which was purchased by Google in an attempt to create a flagship title for Stadia. While it was well received, it never became a mainstream hit for Google. It resulted in the closure of Typhoon Studios, which even broke Journey to the Savage Planet for a significant period of time. Fans of the game will be hoping the new update isn’t a repeat of the past and that the upgrade works as intended from day one.

The release of the new version, titled Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month Edition, comes on February 14. The base game comes bundled with the Hot Garbage DLC, 4K support, Performance and Graphics options, as well as a much-improved photo mode. The update comes as good news to owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, as they’ll be receiving the update free of charge. For players who missed the game upon its release, the bundle provides the perfect opportunity to finally jump in and experience one of the best fictional planets in gaming.

Ary-26 in Journey To The Savage Planet

Journey to the Savage Planet is a game that will massively benefit from being on next-gen consoles. The game boasts an extremely vibrant color palette and deserves to be seen in as much detail as possible. Many smaller titles have received next-gen updates in the past, benefiting from the extra longevity it provides to games. Players will have to wait to see the impact this update has on the Journey to the Savage Planet experience.

With the closure of Stadia, the future of the IP remains in limbo for the foreseeable future. In an industry often filled with sequels and remakes, it’s important that there is still space for new IPs to thrive. While news on the franchise has been sparse for a while now, the game retains a passionate fan base. It’s not unheard of for small fan communities to be the driving force behind the production of a sequel. For Journey to the Savage Planet, it’s well within possibility.

Journey to the Savage Planet is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a next-gen version coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on February 14, 2023.
