Zürich, Switzerland, May 3rd, 2023 – Swiss-Polish developer Blindflug Studios has revealed their new project Ground of Aces, a base building game set during the Second World War. The game is being developed for PC, with a planned release in 2024. A Kickstarter campaign launches today to support the development.

In Ground of Aces players will be able to build and micromanage a World War II air base that is inhabited by a diverse cast of pilots and crew members. While you can play Ground of Aces in a never-ending free build mode, the Theatre Campaigns will give you specific glimpses into World War II and the challenges air bases and their crews had to face, such as the story of the Battle of Britain. It is inspired by free form base builder games like Rimworld and Going Medieval and history strategy games like Hearts of Iron IV. The art style will pay homage to the “ligne claire” style of Franco-Belgian comics like Biggles and Buck Danny.
The main pillars of Ground of Aces:
- A base builder at heart: Your base is laid out by your own choices and thus individual and unique. It serves as your personal home for your planes and crew members.
- Your crew’s personal stories: Base inhabitants are not just resources, they are people shaped by the war. Every person matters and has their own personality. You will get to know every character on the base and will mourn every loss.
- A dream for aviation enthusiasts: Throughout the campaign, you will get access to historically significant aircraft. These planes will have upgradeable parts and you can even individualise them in your own visual style.
- Engulf yourself in the Second World War: Experience its battles from the perspective of your air base crew. Prepare for missions, send out your pilots and be ready for attacks by the enemy.
Blindflug Studios co-founder and executive producer Moritz Zumbühl has been working on the idea for Ground of Aces for several years: “As a big history, aviation and base building fan, I noticed the lack of base building games focused on World War II airfields. Together with my team, we want to fill this gap. We are very excited to finally share this passion project with the gaming community and fellow World War II history buffs.”
