The Maple Grove Fire Department held an open house this past weekend to honor the memory of Dr. Wayne Seutter who donated money and land to the township which was used to renovate the fire department building. Seutter came to Kaleva in 1955, a young practicing doctor of osteopathic medicine. A group of town leaders came together, gave Seutter $300 to start and move his family and from there, Seutter began making history. While Seutter had since died, his family was present for the dedication.

Community project
Like an old-fashioned barn raising, plans for a Manistee River walk are turning into a community project and a source of pride for many city residents. A breakfast meeting of the Riverwalk committee yesterday at the Carriage Inn focused on involving members of the area in beautifying the Manistee River shorelines. Riverwalk committee members learned yesterday that a grant application for state financing will be readied by chamber of commerce director, Jerome Kisscorni by the end of the week.

Soda bar to be open
It was announced today that the soda bar at the Civic Center will open its doors to the public tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. Decorations cover the walls to give an atmosphere of informality and friendliness. Ruth Clarkson and her committee of interior decorators constructed and painted the murals hanging around the new dance floors and over the cozy booths.
