Unpacking’s PlayStation release is really soon.
As we reported a month ago, Unpacking – one of the best video games of 2021 – is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
At the time, we didn’t know when that release date would be, exactly. Publisher Humble Games just said it was “coming soon” which was vague, but also, reassuring. Publishers don’t tend to say something’s “soon” unless, you know, it’s not far away.
And here we are, a few short weeks later, with a release date for Unpacking on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and it’s very soon now: May 10, to be precise.
In a post over on the PlayStation Blog, Tim Dawson – artist and programmer with Unpacking developer Witch Beam – announced the May 10 release date, but also treated us to the story behind some of the game’s objects.
It’s only a short read, but it’s a lovely way to spend a few minutes, watch some cute gifs, and learn a bit more about the inspiration behind the brilliant Unpacking.

We hate to ask, but…
Thumbsticks has a couple of goals. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won’t, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It’s tough to meet those goals! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won’t, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
