Having very recently dropped onto PC, Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy now starts to make moves onto Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Should you be prepared to take on a heroic journey through a colour-fuelled fantasy land, this is the one you’ll want to get involved in.
Available today on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy is a hugely anticipated, procedurally generated open-world RPG, one that delivers some table-top vibes and a rather cool little twist on the usual permadeth experiences.
See, Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy rocks up onto Xbox to give you the chance to take in some beautiful worlds, exploring their hidden secrets and uncovering sheer marvels. Magical creatures and dangerous foes await in equal measure as you slowly and surely work your way through the procedurally generated lands that unfold ahead.
It’s that procedural nature which will be the defining moment of Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy and whether or not you can handle such matters will be of personal taste, but no matter what your take, the twist that Unexplored 2 has is a meaty one – should you die during your final quest stages, not only will your quest end, but the world around you (as well as your save) will be destroyed forevermore.
The key features that will sit in place with Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy include:
- Legacy system: the actions of past heroes impact the fortunes of those that follow in their footsteps. Use your legacy wisely to give successive adventurers greater hopes of completing their quest
- Permadeath in a persistent world: when a hero dies, they stay dead. But you can choose to return to the same world with a new adventurer, forearmed with knowledge of what lies ahead. Or, if you prefer, begin a new adventure in a completely uncharted world
- Generative storytelling: there is no premeditated script in Unexplored 2. Every adventurer’s ultimate goal may be the same – to destroy the Staff of Yendor – but every hero will have their own unique story of the events and encounters that happened along the way
- Procedural generation: Ludomotion’s proprietary technology generates content that feels designed by humans, not algorithms, and can create a near infinite number of new lands, new places, new stories, and new challenges to discover
- Orchestral adaptive soundtrack: an intricate system allows Unexplored 2’s music to be arranged reactively, making subtle changes to the score at appropriate times, whether a moment of high emotion, or to provide foreshadowing
Should you have spied Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy on PC, either through Steam, GOG or Epic, and fancy giving it a go but were restricted to the Xbox system, then today is your lucky day. Just pop over to the Xbox Store, grab the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S download you need for £19.99, and advance through those procedural worlds right away.

Game Description:
Unexplored 2 creates a vast, rich fantasy world for you to discover. It has a cool twist on permadeath: your character may die, but the world might persist. The game is an ambitious, procedural action-RPG without grind, xp, or gold. Instead the story is all about your choices and their consequences as history unfolds. As the titular Wayfarer you take on the quest to destroy the Staff of Yendor, for which you’ll have to traverse your world. Along the way you’ll meet tribes, encounter magical creatures and explore ancient ruins to discover mythical weapons and historic items. The game is challenging and you will die often. You may make a wrong choice, take on one too many creatures, or forget to stock up on food before traveling a desert. Whatever the reason, when your character dies, they’re gone. No autosaving or quickloading. However, you can choose to continue your adventures with a new character in the same world, a few years later. Your new character will witness the result of the choices your previous adventurer made. You can leave items in a safe spot, ready for your next Wayfarer to pick up and use. You can try to fulfill your quest to destroy the Staff of Yendor with consecutive Wayfarers in the same world. However, when you die during your final mission, your world ends. Permanently. So, make sure you are prepared well and know everything there is to know about the last and most dangerous part of your adventure. When you fail, that world vanishes. The only thing left to do is to generate a whole new world with its own history, and begin the quest anew.
