Evidence is discovered that implies Ubisoft could be bringing its Ubisoft+ subscription service to consoles in the near future.
Ubisoft‘s subscription service Ubisoft+ could be coming to consoles soon, according to newly discovered evidence. Ubisoft+, originally named Uplay Plus, was first launched on PC in 2019. It granted access to a library of Ubisoft games, including some day-one releases of Ubisoft’s biggest titles. However, the service has never found its way onto PlayStation and Xbox consoles, outside of a special PlayStation Plus benefit. That could be changing soon, though.
This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft+ being released on consoles has been rumored to be coming. A leaker hinted in August 2022 that Ubisoft+ news was coming soon. This was months after PlayStation Plus added the Ubisoft+ Classics game library to Extra and Premium subscriptions. An announcement never came, however, perhaps due to unexpected delays at Ubisoft. The publisher has certainly had its hands full lately.
While there’s yet to be an announcement regarding Ubisoft+ coming to consoles, Xbox platform scrapers have found evidence that it could be arriving soon. A tag for Ubisoft+ has apparently been added to 24 different games on the Xbox platform. These include the popular Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, and Riders Republic. Ubisoft+ features well over 100 games in its library, so there’s clearly more to this story. It’s still evidence of some kind of movement, however.
There’s no such evidence of Ubisoft+ coming to PlayStation at this time, but there’s an assumption that if Ubisoft+ launches on Xbox then it will probably launch on PlayStation, too. That does make some sense, but Ubisoft may cut one kind of deal with Xbox and another with PlayStation. PlayStation may prefer to keep the Ubisoft+ Classic arrangement exclusively for the time being.
In addition, this past week there was a strange report regarding a GOG survey that included references to different tiers of Ubisoft+. Ubisoft+ doesn’t currently have different tiers, and some took it to mean Ubisoft+ would be relaunching with different subscription options. It could also be contributory evidence of console plans if Ubisoft wanted to make a bigger deal of its Ubisoft+ changes.
For the time being, there’s no official confirmation of Ubisoft+ coming to other platforms or changing in any way. Even if an announcement is coming, it could be just for Xbox One, or just for new tiers for PC. Much remains to be seen, but Ubisoft could certainly use some exciting news soon given recent game cancelations and delays.
