I both love and hate Sundays. I love them because they’re a free day to play video games for as long as you want, but I hate them because you know in the back of your mind that another work week is right around the corner. In any case, you’ve probably gotten behind on everything that’s been going on in the world of gaming, so let’s get you back up to speed with our daily news roundup. We found out today that Hideo Kojima never wanted to port Metal Gear Solid 4, cops are apparently some of the highest earners in our society, and the recently delayed Stalker 2 is back in development. There’s more where this came from, so read on for the rest.
Genshin Impact Dev Confirms It’s Working On Another Game Besides Zenless Zone Zero
We heard a while back about an upcoming project from the developer behind Genshin Impact called Zenless Zone Zero. This action roleplaying game takes place in a post-apocalyptic urban setting that will have you playing as one of the last remaining survivors in a city called New Eridu. Turns out that another project by the same developer is currently in the works. We don’t know much about the game, but it’s apparently going to be some sort of “paranormal” action shooter.
Study Estimates How Much Video Game Characters Would Make In The Real World, Accidentally Finds That Cops Are Overpaid
In case you’ve ever wondered how much money Mario would be making as a plumber in the real world, a brand new study has looked into the matter and come up with some surprising results. The study in question “looked at some of the world’s most iconic video game characters and calculated how much each would earn if they landed their real-world dream job.” This involved basing “character earnings on data from salary comparison sites as well as publicly available pay bands to find an average yearly salary for more than 50 video game characters.” The biggest takeaway seems to be that cops are dramatically overpaid with a total of five out of the top ten earners being either police officers or something very similar.
Stalker 2 Has Reportedly Resumed Development After Russia’s Invasion Of Ukraine
The highly anticipated Stalker 2 has been on hold ever since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Development now seems to have been restarted. “Russia declared war on Ukraine and sent rockets, tanks, and soldiers to our homeland. Our country is forced to fight for existence again. Seems like this is the price of freedom,” the developer, GSC Game World, said at the time of the invasion. “Now, we are striving to help our employees and their families to survive. The game development shifted to the sidelines. But we will definitely continue.” When asked about the process of development by a fan, GSC Game World recently announced that “it continues.”
Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise have been wondering for years why the fourth entry in the series never made it onto the Xbox. The assumption has always been that its creator, Hideo Kojima, signed some sort of exclusivity agreement with Sony, but this apparently wasn’t the case. The news comes from a former developer by the name of Ryan Payton. ”The prevailing belief around the industry was that Sony must have secured an exclusive deal for the game. It wasn’t true,” Payton recently said. “Had Kojima chosen to port the game to Xbox 360, his bosses would surely have approved the decision, but he wasn’t ready to make the jump.”
More Than 50 Percent Of Gamers Admit To Having Bullied Other Players
The results of a recent study show that well over 50 percent of people who responded to a survey admitted to having bullied other people while playing online games. “More than half of respondents admitted to taking part in bullying others while playing video games,” the report indicates. This goes on to say that “of those who have, 85 percent have been blocked, muted, reported, or banned for it. Bullies often used racism, doxxing, and swatting to attack their victims. These victims were most often targeted for their gender, sexual identity, or religion.”
