The recently released PS5 version of Persona 5: Royal has been in the wild long enough for the technical wizards over at Digital Foundry to work their magic, comparing the immaculate JRPG across each and every platform on which the game is playable.
Persona 5 has seen several iterations since it was released in 2016. Originally designed as a PS3 game, repeated delays saw the game reworked to run on PS4. An expanded re-release known as Persona 5: Royal was released in 2019, featuring additional and enhanced content. The native PS5 version comes with the usual slew of current-gen enhancements we have come to expect, including 4K visuals, the requisite 60fps and DualSense controller support.
But there is more to it than just that. Taking advantage of the additional horsepower provided by the PS5, Persona 5: Royal comes packed with new artwork, high-res assets, enhanced depth of field, and with the game’s lighting and colouring enhanced, making an already visually impressive title a real stunner, despite its PS3 origins.
