Atlus is reportedly working on a complete remake of Persona 3, which will feature graphics and quality-of-life improvements reminiscent of Persona 5.
A remake of Persona 3 is reportedly in development.
As reported by My Nintendo News, several insiders have claimed that developer Atlus is apparently toiling away on a remake of the popular JRPG. The remake will supposedly have “Persona 5-like graphics and quality-of-life improvements.” News of the remake was leaked by the same individual who claimed that Xbox Game Pass would soon offer all three Persona installments.
While it is not confirmed when this remake will come out — or whether it is in the works at all — fans will soon be able to experience Persona 3 Portable on new platforms. The third Persona game will launch on new console and PC ports on Jan. 19, alongside Persona 4: Golden. The rerelease of the games features updates such as high-resolution graphics, a quick save function and the ability to choose a difficulty setting from the start. Furthermore, Persona 4 Golden includes an all-new album feature, enabling players to experience previous scenes again and pick different answers to questions. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to access both remasters at launch.
First hitting shelves in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Persona 3 allows players to control a high-school student who joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), a team of students tasked with exploring the Dark Hour, a period between one day and the next that only a select few know about. During the Dark Hour, players fight the Shadows, monsters that thrive off the minds of humans, in a large tower known as Tartarus. A manifestation of a person’s inner self, known as “Personas,” can be summoned to combat these creatures. Alongside the standard features of role-playing games, Persona 3 draws inspiration from simulation games to allow players to progress day-by-day through a school year and make friends and strengthen relationships to improve the fighting prowess of Personas in battle.
Persona 3 Portable, the version of the game receiving the upcoming remastered release, was first launched in 2009 for the PlayStation Portable. The game features several improvements, including the option to play as a female protagonist, new story beats and music and a new interface. Persona 3 has also received several spinoffs like dungeon crawler RPG Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth and its sequel Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth on the 3DS and rhythm game Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
A release date for the Persona 3 remake has not been confirmed. The Persona 3 remaster will be released on Jan. 19 on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
