Falcom has teased its next Ys game, which will be the tenth numbered title in the long running action RPG series. We’ve got concept art (which you can gawk at above) and some early gameplay details via Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu, as compiled by Gematsu.
We’ll have to start with the headline: the next Ys game will apparently take inspiration from the now established Soulslike formula. There’s mention of “steadily-paced one-on-one combat”, and although Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo says that the game isn’t going straight-up Souls, it does sound like it might be a more considered action title.
Other details include Ys protagonist Adol being in his younger years during this adventure, and you should expect new gameplay elements. Platforms haven’t been confirmed yet, but we would assume that this project is targeting PS5 and PS4, given Falcom’s most recent releases.
The last Ys game was Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, which launched for PS4 last year. Its predecessor, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, is getting a PS5 port this autumn.
What do you want from the next Ys game? What do you make of these first details? Time a perfect dodge in the comments section below.
