SPRINGBORO — Springboro High School students will have to wait a week before returning to the classroom and start the New Year by learning online.
The district announced on its website that cleanup efforts are still underway at the school after the sprinkler pipe burst last weekend.

“You’re looking at pieces of the roof coming down,” said Scott Marshall, District Communications Coordinator for Springboro Schools. “We had standing water in the hallways. Some of our academic wings were affected.”
To dry out the rooms affected, 100 percent dry air is being pumped 24/7 into the wet areas.
“We just felt we couldn’t hold classes. The damage needs to be restored,” Marshall said.
Students will still learn— just from home on Chromebooks the school is handing out.
The high school wants every student to be able to focus.
“We have families that might have four or five kids and that might share one or two devices at home,” said Sheryl Winter, Springboro Schools Educational Technologist.
Staff would still much rather see their students in desks than over a web cam.
“It’s not ideal. You’d rather be in person, but there is some familiarity with that,” Marshall said.
Students can still pick up Chromebooks Tuesday from 7 a.m. through 4 p.m. and all of the students are expected back in the building next Monday, January 9th.
