AN ISLE of Wight man is due to be sentenced later this month for burglary, and could face another jail term just days after being released from prison.
Gary Dauncey, already a serving prisoner at HMP Isle of Wight, formerly of Osborne Road, Shanklin, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Thursday (May 5).
The 51-year-old admitted burglary in Sandown, on November 16, 2020.
He also admitted attempted burglary, in Newport, on November 22, 2020.
Prosecutor, Gemma Noble, told the court Dauncey burgled a dwelling on Salisbury Way, stealing an Xbox 360, car keys to a Kia Picanto, a £20 note and a Natwest bank card.
A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said the occupant of the address was awoken by the noise as Dauncey moved through her house and searched her TV cabinet before leaving the address.
He also attempted to burgle Pan Stores in Newport six days later, entering a private storeroom as a trespasser, with the intention to steal there.
Police said he walked around before entering the storeroom corridor, which is for staff only.
When challenged by a member of staff, Dauncey turned around and left the shop.
Forensics, together with CCTV and ring doorbell footage, identified Dauncey as the man responsible for the two incidents.
His case was adjourned for sentencing on May 27 and an all-options pre-sentence report was ordered.
The court heard Dauncey was due to be released from prison on May 25, and could well find himself back behind bars two days later.
Dauncey was granted unconditional bail.
