Guild Esports PLC (LSE:GILD, OTCQB:GULDF) said its professional Fortnite player Anas El-Abd has taken first place in a major Fortnite competition organised by Epic Games and Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson, the world’s largest individual YouTuber.
Anas’ victory in the ‘MrBeast’s Extreme Survival Challenge’ competition was confirmed on January 17 2023 by Epic Games, the publisher of Fortnite, following an extensive verification process.
As a result of his win, Anas won US$1mln in prize money, of which a small proportion will go to Guild Esports, in line with industry practice and contractual agreements between the company and Guild pro-players.
The event, which took place on 17 December 2022, provided significant visibility for Guild Esports, with MrBeast providing strong publicity to the challenge and Anas across his social media, with his Twitter posts promoting the tournament receiving more than 25 million combined views, and MrBeast personally congratulated Anas in a tweet viewed more than 1.5 million times.
Anas’ success rounded off a strong year of competitive success for the company and its players with a total of five team and individual trophies won in 2022.
