Rockstar Games has seen some unhappy fans and controversy lately, with the troubled Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Remaster release riling up players everywhere. Even so, it can’t undermine the long-lasting appeal of Grand Theft Auto 5 and its world, characters, and story.
There’s a ton that went into making the game the powerhouse hit it is, but it wouldn’t be the same without GTA 5‘s three main characters, Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. These characters could have just remained part of the game, but their actors sometimes reprise the roles in real life, too, and now Michael is at it again.
Michael’s actor, Ned Luke, shared a hilarious video on Twitter with no particular explanation attached to it. In the video, the camera slowly pans up to reveal the actor standing in a yard wearing a full-fledged Cluckin’ Bell outfit. The fast food chain has been a staple in GTA for years, and the costume is a spot-on recreation of the look the employees have in-game.
After a slight groan and shifting around in the outfit, Ned turns around and looks at the camera, and as Michael, simply says, “This was not my idea of a successful retirement. Welcome to Cluckin’ F—in’ Bell. Can I take you order?” In text, the tweet simply says, ‘Ya do what ya gotta do…whatever it takes…survive.’ The full video can be seen here.
Of course, GTA 5‘s story sees Michael living the high life in Los Santos, with a beautiful and expensive home. The likelihood of him working at a Cluckin’ Bell seems extremely low, though it’s entirely possible that it could have happened as part of a job or heist with the rest of the crew. Unfortunately, while Cluckin’ Bell was an actual establishment players could visit in games like GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4 to buy food and recover health, the same can’t be said of GTA 5. Players can buy stock in Cluckin’ Bell, but players can’t buy anything from the chain restaurant.
Of course, fans are eating up the post, thoroughly amused at the idea of Michael being stuck as a Cluckin’ Bell employee. Others were quick to quote GTA: San Andreas‘ Big Smoke, subjecting Michael to the massive order he placed in his game. Some openly expressed wishes that Michael would return in a future GTA 5 or GTA: Online DLC update, which isn’t entirely out of the question, since Franklin recently starred in the GTA Online Dr Dre update.
Although GTA 5 is beginning the approach to its tenth anniversary, it’s nice to see the actors still appreciating their roles and reprising them, even if it’s just for a joke. Trevor’s actor reprised his role in a GTA VR parody video, Franklin and Lamar’s actors reprised their classic ‘Can a Loc come up in your crib?’ scene in real life, and the actors sometimes record videos or audio of themselves in-character for fans. It remains to be seen if Michael, Trevor, or Franklin return in Grand Theft Auto 6, but even if they don’t, moments like these are sure to make the fans happy.
GTA 5 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
