A rivalry will be settled Saturday night when Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero face off for the WBA (Regular) lightweight title at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
A 2012 Golden Gloves champion, Davis made his pro debut in 2013. He won the IBF super featherweight title in 2017, then lost it later that year after missing weight for a fight against Francisco Fonseca. In 2018, Davis won the WBA (Super) super featherweight title and then became WBA (Regular) lightweight champion against Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019.
Davis captured the WBA (Super) super featherweight title in October 2020 with a knockout victory over Leo Santa Cruz. After changing divisions again, Davis beat Mario Barrios to win the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title. His last fight was in December, a win over Isaac Cruz to retain the WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

Romero made his pro debut in 2016. He won the interim WBA lightweight title in August 2020 against Jackson Marinez. In his last bout in July, Romero faced Anthony Yigit. The interim title was not on the line since Yigit missed weight. Romero beat him in the seventh round via TKO.
The two were supposed to fight last Dec. 5, but Romero was pulled from the fight after sexual assault allegations were made against him. No charges were filed after a few weeks, and the bout was back on.
Davis has his own history of legal issues, including being arrested on charges of simple battery and domestic abuse against his former girlfriend. The incident took place in February 2020 at a basketball game.

Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero live results, updates
11:40 p.m.: Erislandy Lara just detonated a straight left hand that dropped O’Sullivan with seconds left in the fourth round. O’Sullivan made it to his feet and survived the round but the end could be near.
11:30 p.m.: Erislandy Lara and Spike O’Sullivan are up now. Lara is now 39 and not quite as elusive as he once was but O’Sullivan has done little more through the first two rounds but stand in front of him and eat punches.
11:01 p.m.: As expected, Ramos took home a unanimous decision with a strong performance against a slick opponent. Scores were wide with 98-92, 97-93 & 97-93.
10:51 p.m.: Ramos’ aggression has prevented Santamaria from properly setting his traps and picking his spots. By keeping Santamaria on his backfoot, Ramos appears to be closing in on a unanimous decision. Neither fighter has been in danger but Santamaria is just not doing enough to win the fight.
10:30 p.m.: We’re in the fourth round of Jesus Ramos vs. Luke Santamaria and while it’s not terribly entertaining, it’s been pretty competitive. Santamaria is crafty but it feels like Ramos can explode with a big combination at any given moment.
