Following major issues with the game’s launch, Konami has now delayed eFootball’s first big update until 2022.
Konami’s eFootball, the first game released in their new eFootball franchise, replacing Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), launched on September 30, 2021 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and PC Steam.
Konami confirmed in July that eFootball will be a free-to-play game that has crossplay between all platforms and will receive constant upgrades and updates, rather than releasing a new game annually.
However, players who downloaded the game for free on release began to notice some major issues with the game, experiencing bizarre gameplay sequences and graphics, with some embarrassing screenshots and videos being shared across social media.
Konami said that the game would have overhauled graphics and using Unreal Engine, “a new technology called ‘Motion Matching’ will convert the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time.
But players all over the world started sharing screenshots of players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and more following the launch, with the game being derided for its poor graphics and poor gameplay.
And now following the game’s awful launch issues, Konami has today released a statement confirming that the game’s first major update will be delayed until 2022.
This makes the current version of the game a demo essentially for the next few months, as many of the new modes and features haven’t been added to the game yet.
As such, Konami has also revealed that they will be refunding eFootball 2022 Premium Player Pack orders, as these items can only be used after the first major update.
“We would like to inform you that the v1.0.0 update for eFootball™ 2022, scheduled to be released on November 11, 2021, has been postponed until Spring 2022,” Said Konami in a statement.
“Also, we would like to announce the cancellation and automatic refunds of eFootball™ 2022 Premium Player Pack, which includes items that can only be used in-game after the v1.0.0 update.
“We have been working diligently towards distributing an update that will bring new content to the game, including a new mode where you can strengthen and play with an original team, as well as support for mobile devices on November 11, 2021.
“Unfortunately, we have concluded that more time is needed to deliver the product in the quality that will meet the expectations of our users and have decided to postpone the delivery.
“Also, we have decided to cancel the pre-order for eFootball™ 2022 Premium Player Pack, which includes items that can only be used in-game after the update.
“We will release v0.9.1 to fix numerous bugs sequentially on each platform starting today (November 5). We will continue to improve and update our game. We will announce details of further updates and schedule for the mobile version later.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this causes our users and other stakeholders who have been looking forward to this title.”
