Best PS4 Co-Op Games
Below is a list of the best PS4 co-op games, arranged in no particular order. These are our favourite cooperative PS4 games, as determined by our editorial team.
It Takes Two (PS4)

Publisher: Electronic Arts / Developer: Hazelight
- Local or Online Co-Op? Both
- Number of Max Players: 2
- Number of Controllers: One each
It Takes Two is a co-op only game, requiring a second player to pick up a controller. The good news is that this is one of the best co-op experiences you can find on PS4. It features a huge variety of locations and gameplay mechanics as you must work as a team to get through the adventure. It’s bursting with charm and has so many memorable moments — and you’ll do it all in a collaborative effort with a buddy. With its Friends Pass, a second person can download the game free of charge, so you don’t need to splash out twice. There’s not a dull moment in this imaginative, highly entertaining game.

Team Sonic Racing (PS4)

Publisher: SEGA / Developer: Sumo Digital
- Local or Online Co-Op? Both
- Number of Max Players: 4 (12 in online races)
- Number of Controllers: One each
Team Sonic Racing is a kart racer that’s all about coop. You can team up with your pals either locally or online, and you must all work together to ensure victory. Trailing teammates can use a literal golden path to boost forward, and you can swap power-ups with each other to help everyone get ahead. It’s unique, lots of fun, and a smart implementation of co-op in kart racing. Gotta go fast!

Knights and Bikes (PS4)

Publisher: Double Fine / Developer: Foam Sword
- Local or Online Co-Op? Both
- Number of Max Players: 2
- Number of Controllers: One each
Knights and Bikes can be played solo, but it’s even better with a buddy in either local or online co-op. Taking on the roles of Nessa and Demelza as they explore the mysterious Penfurzy island, you’ll get up to all sorts of mischief in this puzzle platformer. Cooperation comes into play when you need to solve puzzles together, and in combat, your movesets play off of each other in lots of fun ways. An utter delight from start to finish.
The Division 2 (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Massive Entertainment
- Local or Online Co-Op? Online
- Number of Max Players: 4
- Number of Controllers: One each
The Division 2 arguably enjoyed the best launch period of a looter shooter this generation, and although things have been a little rocky for Ubisoft’s cover-based excursion since, it’s still great fun with friends. A detailed, dense open world is the spine of The Division 2, and exploring it as a team can quickly become an addiction — especially when you’re being showered with loot. But it’s the story and co-op specific missions that really set the game apart, offering up some fantastic firefights.

Grand Theft Auto V (PS4)

Publisher: Rockstar / Developer: Rockstar North
- Local or Online Co-Op? Online
- Number of Max Players: 8
- Number of Controllers: One each
Grand Theft Auto V’s three-pronged campaign already feels like it should be a perfect fit for coop, but it’s with GTA Online’s Heist missions that developer Rockstar North has at last realised the juggernaut series’ collaborative potential. With each player assuming a different cog in an increasingly complicated criminal crusade, this is some of the most compelling co-op you’ll find on the PS4.
