The Australian Esports League will host the Newcastle Esports Cup gaming tournament at Central Leagues Club in Charlestown this March.
With a $1,000 prize pool up for grabs, local gamers will be competing across four games played on both Xbox and Nintendo gaming consoles.
Tournaments will be held for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, 2 v 2 Rocket League and Mario Kart 8.
“This event is a great opportunity for gamers in Newcastle to show off their skills and spend time with their friends,” Darren Kwan, CEO of the Australian Esports League, said.
In addition to the main tournaments, the event will also feature competitions exclusive to high school students, providing an opportunity to represent their school in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rocket League.
“The AEL is focused on building community and we welcome this opportunity to expand esports in the greater Newcastle region.
“We are proud to be working with Central Leagues Club to bring a great esports event for local gamers to the region. We hope to see gamers drawn to Newcastle to join in the competition and to showcase their talent.”
Spectators are encouraged to join in the venue or play friendly games in the free play zone.
And if you can’t make it to the venue the Esports Cup will also include a live broadcast with commentary for selected matches, which will be streamed for audiences to watch.
The Australian Esports League’s Newcastle Esports Cup will take place at Central Leagues Club on 11 and 12 March 2023. To register or find out more about the event visit ael.org.au/newcastle.
